How to figure out how much you will need
It takes 1.78 lineal feet to cover 1 square foot.
Example: If you need a 100 square feet, take 100 and multiply it by 1.78, which equals 178. This is the amount of log siding you will need in lineal feet. Remember to add some for waste, which may vary from job to job, but 10% for walls and 15% for gables is usually good. If you have a few windows and doors in the wall, usually you can figure the wall square footage and ignore the windows and door and this will give you the extra you will need. Subtract off any large areas such as garage doors and picture windows by figuring out the square foot of each and take this off the total square footage. Gable ends square footage can be figured easily by multiplying the width at the bottom by the height from the eve or top of the wall up to the peak and divide by 2. Then add at least 15% for waste because of the angles. If you have two gables, skip dividing by 2 and you have both ends.
